Laboratory peptide work starts with concentration math: mass, volume, and molarity. This guide is bench arithmetic only—not human dosing or syringe units.
Mass Concentration (mg/mL)
10 mg dissolved in 2.0 mL yields 5 mg/mL. A 10× dilution of that stock yields 0.5 mg/mL. Use actual reconstituted volume in calculations.
Molarity from Mass and MW
Molarity (mol/L) = (mass g ÷ MW g/mol) ÷ volume L. Example: MW 1419, 10 mg (0.010 g) in 2.0 mL (0.002 L) ≈ 3.52 mM. Use COA MW and adjust for net peptide content when required.
Useful Conversions
- 1 mM = 1000 µM
- µM = (µg/mL × 1000) ÷ MW
- Keep a notebook worksheet with lot MW and net content
Documentation
Record lot, MW, net content, diluent, volumes, and dilution chain. See MW calculations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why MW?
Required for mass-to-molarity conversion.
Q: Human dosing?
Not covered—lab math only.
Q: TFA salts?
Counterions can change net peptide vs label mass.
Q: Where to record?
Lab notebook with lot details.
Worked Dilution Series Example
Suppose a 5.0 mg/mL stock (mass concentration) corresponds to 3.52 mM for a given MW. To prepare 500 µM working solution, dilution factor = 3520 µM ÷ 500 µM = 7.04×. For 1.00 mL working solution, mix 0.142 mL stock with 0.858 mL diluent (volumes illustrative—verify arithmetic for your MW).
Always recompute when the lot MW or net peptide content changes. Do not reuse a prior notebook factor blindly across lots.
What This Guide Explicitly Excludes
No syringe markings, no IU conversions for human injection, and no body-weight dosing. Those topics are out of scope for RUO educational content.
Takeaway for Research Teams
Standardize documentation, preserve lot traceability, and design controls that can falsify your hypothesis. Those habits matter more than adding unverified claims to a methods section. Keep every vial labeled research use only, and keep calculations, diluents, and storage conditions in the notebook beside the biological endpoints.
When results surprise you, audit the reagent identity and preparation trail before rewriting the biological story. Most “mysterious” peptide findings begin as ordinary handling or labeling mismatches.
Scope Reminder
All materials discussed here are research reagents. Nothing in this article authorizes human administration, clinical protocols, or consumer supplementation narratives. Keep inventory labels, invoices, and lab SOPs aligned with research-use-only language, and route any human-use questions to appropriate medical/regulatory channels outside this catalog context.
